1) THE WINE: I tried a glass of Josh Merlot, made with the Merlot Grape, at the Kroger Bar on Main Street. The bottle of Josh Merlot cost $12 and is from California in the Mendocino region with a vintage year of 2022.
2) CRITIC REVIEW: A review of the wine from an online source can be found on Wine Enthusiast, written by Stacy Briscoe (Review), with a score of 88.
3) REFERENCES of FLAVORS: The wine had a taste of tart cherry with an aftertaste of a smooth chocolate tang. (Wine Folly 131). I also noticed a slight taste of dried fig, adding to the cherry flavor (Wine Folly 132).
4) MY REVIEW: Personally, I found the wine to be quite tasty, and less tart than what the Wine Folly text describes for Merlot wine. The wine went down smoothly, like a glass of chocolate milk, layered with cherry tart. When swirled around in the glass, the wine showed strong legs. When back at "KroBar" I wouldn't be surprised if I were to order Josh Merlot again; however, I am not eager to go back just to get Josh merlot. I did not have the wine with food, but I'm sure Josh and a nice flank steak and broccoli would go well together. I recommend this wine for anyone looking for a cheap chocolate and cherry tasting adventure!
